Lunar Library: A Backup of Humanity’s History On the Moon

What if humans existences wiped off due to some asteroid collisions or due to our own human act ,what will be left of us?We will loose all our our data, our technology and even geography. But wait and  Rest easy, because much of the entirety of human knowledge has been backed up, and is on its way to the moon on an Israeli spacecraft called the SpaceIL  “Beresheet” lunar lander ,It will be among the solar system’s first off-Earth libraries designed to preserve the records of our civilization for up to billions of years.

The satellite Library contains a thirty million page archive of human history and civilization, covering all subjects, cultures, nations, languages, genres, and time periods,as well as ten thousand crowdsourced images, to the moon in 2020 to begin its Lunar Library.

Project organizers hope eventually to include all of Wikipedia, as well as genome maps and much of the world’s greatest art, music, literature and scientific knowledge.

The project actually started as a childhood dream of co-founder Nova  Spivack, was inspired by Issac Asimov’s “Foundation” novel series .

The Library is housed inside a one hundred gram applied science device that resembles a 120mm videodisk. However it’s truly composed of twenty five nickel discs, each only 40 microns thick, that were made for the Arch Mission Foundation by NanoArchival. The first four layers will contain over sixty thousand analog images of pages of books, photographs, illustrations, and documents – etched as 150 to 200 dpi, at increasing levels of magnification, due optical nanolithography.

The first stage of the satellite Library will be  toted to the moon by Astrobotic’s Peregrine lander in 2020 aboard an associate Atlas V rocket and be delivered to the satellite surface by a robotic lander referred to as Peregrine, made by the private space start-up Astrobotic. The trip is about  to be Peregrine’s 1st mission, and Arch Mission Foundation’s books and pictures,-in their digital DNA kind ,will be among its first payloads.
