Windows Lite and resurrection of the mythical Courier that wanted to compete with the iPad

Windows Lite and resurrection

Rumors about the existence of a lighter, more minimalist version of Windows 10 continue to accumulate, and now a new report published in The Verge reveals that Windows Lite will govern dual-screen devices.😉🙌🙌

So, the bet of this project is not only to serve to compete against the Chromebook and Chrome OS but to offer an operating system prepared to adapt to that hypothetical future of dual-screen devices. If you hear the project is normal: Microsoft already pointed to something like that with Courier.

We could have the first surprise this year

Sources close to the company confirmed in The Verge the existence of a project that will be a cut-out version of Windows in which the interface will be designed for devices with a dual screen.🤤

The surprising thing is that we may see one of those devices based on Windows Lite before the end of the year: according to those sources those releases will depend “on the degree of availability of the manufacturers of chips and PCs.”

The efforts of Microsoft in this area are converging, and among them is that development of the ‘Composable Shell’ or C-Shell and Windows Core OS, which precisely raises that ability to adapt to devices with two screens and even more: to folding devices. 😨

Microsoft is tempted by folding and dual screens

There are many clues that point to that ambition of Microsoft to conquer a new type of devices in which the format changes significantly. The dual screens seem to be protagonists in that future, as will the folding / flexible screens.

Self Satya Nadella pointed to that possibility, saying that ” our upcoming mobile phones will not look “, but also we talking enough time to Andromeda, the project that is theoretically focused on developing a folding tablet.

It has been a long year since conceptual images of these devices have appeared, which in essence are very similar to what we have seen with the Samsung Galaxy Fold or the Huawei Mate X, but which would be based on Windows Lite instead of Windows 10 or Android, for example. 😂

Resurrecting Courier

The concept, of course, is not new. Microsoft already outlined it ten years ago in the form of the so-called Courier, a device with a dual touch screen that was folded and unfolded and that made the stylus one of the outstanding elements of the user experience.

That project would have allowed Microsoft to compete with the iPad that dominated the tablet segment with a firm hand, but in Redmond, they encountered so many technical obstacles to their development that they decided to cancel it in 2010.

That idea never died at all, it seems, and with Andromeda, a new category of product with two touch screens and based on Windows Core OS is proposed.✔✔😎

Everything points therefore to that resurrection of Courier, a concept that probably was born ahead of its time but that now could have an interesting opportunity. There is no official data from Microsoft, but it could be in the next BUILD developer conference that will be held from May 6 to 9.
